We have a complete range of leisure battery for every requirement, whether that is marine, caravan, camper, motorhome or boat. Leisure batteries can be broken down into the following types, deciding which is best for you depends on a number of factors:

Standard web lead acid battery type

such as the Lucas FLA 85Ah is normally the cheapest type, these are cost effective but need more maintenance and are more prone to damage from being discharged.

Sealed lead acid battery type

such as the Lucas SFL85Ah need no maintenance and will hold its charge for longer. These are also safer, as they cannot leak electrolyte as a standard battery may.

Gel battery type

such as the Energy SGel 160Ah are able to cope with more charge/discharge cycles during their lifetime and will hold their charge for longer having low self drain properties.

Absorbed Glass Matt (AGM) battery type

such as the Lucas AGM110Ah as with the Gel battery type the AGM batteries are able to cope with more charge/discharge cycles and are able to hold their charge for longer having the same low self drain properties, they also benefit from being extremely resistant to vibration.

Car Battery Maintenance
(Extract from Lucas Car Battery Fitment Guide)

30 years ago, batteries lost water at a high rate and motorists were advised to check the acid level as one of their weekly checks. Improvements using calcium as a hardening agent in grids in place of antimony have caused less contamination of the acid and much reduced water loss. This makes the battery maintenance-free so no water needs to be added during its life under normal operating conditions. During the same period, battery life has doubled from 2 years to 4-5 years. Always refer to the information contained in the handbook or brochure supplied with the vehicle or equipment. (copyright Lucas Batteries)
